Solar Models with Revised Abundances and Opacities
نویسنده
چکیده
Using reconstructed opacities, we construct solar models with low heavyelement abundance. Rotational mixing and enhanced diffusion of helium and heavy elements are used to reconcile the recently observed abundances with helioseismology. The sound speed and density of models where the relative and absolute diffusion coefficients for helium and heavy elements have been increased agree with seismically inferred values at better than the 0.005 and 0.02 fractional level respectively. However, the surface helium abundance of the enhanced diffusion model is too low. The low helium problem in the enhanced diffusion model can be solved to a great extent by rotational mixing. The surface helium and the convection zone depth of rotating model M04R3, which has a surface Z of 0.0154, agree with the seismic results at the levels of 1 σ and 3 σ respectively. M04R3 is almost as good as the standard model M98. Some discrepancies between the models constructed in accord with the new element abundances and seismic constraints can be solved individually, but it seems difficult to resolve them as a whole scenario. The Effect of Differential Settling and of Revised Abundances on Solar Oscillation Frequencies
Models using the OPAL monochromatic opacities are calibrated to show the eeect of detailed diiusion of all elements and of the proposed update of the solar chemical composition on the Sun's sound-speed proole and predicted acoustic oscillation frequencies. Both detailed diiusion and the revised abundances decrease the sound speed below the convection zone compared with the most commonly used st...

The recent revision of the solar chemical composition (A04: Asplund et al. 2005) leads to a decrease of about 40% in the C, N, O, Ne abundances and to a ∼ 20 % decrease of Fe and some other metal abundances in comparison with older abundances (GN93: Grevesse & Noels 1993), as shown in Fig. 1. Figure 1: The new solar abundances in comparison with the older ones. We tested the effects of these mo...

We construct solar models with the newly calculated radiative opacities from the Opacity Project (OP) and recently determined (lower) heavy element abundances. We compare results from the new models with predictions of a series of models that use OPAL radiative opacities, older determinations of the surface heavy element abundances, and refinements of nuclear reaction rates. For all the variati...
متن کاملAccuray of Stellar Opacities and the Solar Abundance Problem
The abundances of some of the most common elements in the Sun has been called into question by recent analysis based on new non-LTE hydrodynamic models. The new abundances of C, N, O, Ne etc. are 30-40% lower than the ’standard’ solar abundances, which were heretofore well established and supported by precise helioseismological observations. A number of recent studies have addressed the issue f...
